Alan Braithwaite

Alan has worked in supply chain and logistics since 1979, forming the specialist LCP Consulting in 1985 and taking it to the position of leading European independent specialist consultancy. During nearly 40 years he has worked with around 400 companies as well in the public sector. The company was acquired by BearingPoint® in 2017 and he is retained as a Senior Advisor.

In the last ten years he has taken a particular interest in freight transport policy and investment. He is the Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Freight and Logistics Policy Group and a member of its public policy committee, In those roles he was the lead author of the CILT Freight and Logistics Vision 2035 and many consultations and calls for evidence by government and agencies.

Most recently he has been working on an innovative Urban Logistics Concept with Greater Manchester, supporting the Freight for the North Project, on an EU project on new models for City Food Logistics and the National Infrastructure Commission on it Freight Project.

Between 1987 - 2018, he was a visiting academic at the Cranfield School of Management, Centre for Supply Chain and Logistics Management and was a Visiting Professor between 2006 and 2018. He contributed to research and teaching and was acting head of supply chain research for 18 months.

In 2015 his book authored with Professor Martin Christopher was published:  “Business Operations Models – becoming a disruptive competitor”.

Alan holds an MSc in Business Administration from the London Business School and a BSc in Chemical Engineering from Birmingham University.
